Strata

Strata

Paper, wax, thread
7.5″ x 12″

The truth lives close to the core of the earth, nestled deep down under many layers of compressed stone and molten rock, and above the cumulonimbus clouds, reaching high into the atmosphere, where it floats just barely out of reach. To find it you must close your eyes and stay still as you drift deeper and deeper and higher and higher into the darkness until everything falls away, peels off layer by layer like old skin, until nothing is left but the truth.

Strata, detail

This is a piece I’ve been working on for quite a  while now–it takes a long time to stitch all the pieces together and to add texture to every other one. I love how luminous and ethereal it looks against a dark background.
